COACHES

 

Gitaik Hong, Coaching Director, 12N1 Head Coach, 14N1 Head Coach

Coach Hong is an internationally recognized, high performance volleyball coach and player. He now resides in New Mexico and has been coaching club volleyball here for the past 10 years. He started his coaching career at the national level after retiring as a professional player and eventually took the job as assistant coach of the LG Professional Men’s Volleyball Team. Since moving to New Mexico, he has coached high school volleyball in Albuquerque, coached college volleyball at New Mexico Highlands University and volunteer coached at the University of New Mexico. Mr. Hong has been a volleyball coach for his entire adult life. Coaching volleyball is his passion. He has won many awards as a coach and as a player. Last year he coached two teams to the Junior Girls National Championships.

Jerry Stofleth, Coaching Director, 13N Head Coach, 15N1 Assistant Coach

Jerry Has been coaching volleyball for over 13 years in Albuquerque. He has coached girl’s club volleyball for 4 years, finishing in the top 10 in the Sun Country Region each year, last year finishing 4th place in the SURVA tournament coaching a 13-2s team for a local high performance club. He coached volleyball three years at YMCA, and coached men’s club volleyball earlier in his career. Jerry has played volleyball for over thirty years, indoor, grass doubles and sand. He was the setter and captain for his men’s A-division club team and has traveled around the region representing Albuquerque. He has competed in the men’s and coed Senior Olympics for the last 2 years. He currently holds a USAV CAP-1 and AAU-PCI certifications, and holds current certificates in safe-sport and impact training. Outside volleyball, Jerry works full-time as an engineer at Sandia National Labs, part-time professor at New Mexico Tech, and teaches the physics and engineering of explosives at various venues around the country.

Christina Norton, 18N1 Head Coach, 12R Assistant Coach


Christina has 10 years of coaching experience and is the current Head Coach of the Cibola High School Volleyball program.  She has also coached the freshman and junior varsity volleyball teams. At Rio Rancho High School, Christina played as a Libero/Defensive Specialist that won back-to back 5A New Mexico State Championships and was a Runner-Up State Champion. Christina also played at Midland College, where she began her coaching career with a 12U traveling team. She enjoys volleyball and strives to pass on the love for volleyball with the girls that she coaches. She holds CAP I USAV Certification.

“As coaches we are constantly learning, whether it be about our team or ourselves, it is my hope that every year that I coach I am able to better myself and the players I have in both volleyball and in life.”

Jazmine Burt, 16N1 Head Coach

Born and raised in Albuquerque New Mexico Coach Jazz attended Manzano High School and played volleyball for four years, which she then Graduated in 2010 from Manzano. Then she continued with her volleyball career at NMMI the New Mexico Military Institute where she played as a DS. NMMI is a Junior College, which she graduated from in 2012. After graduating she started her coaching career at Manzano High school as the head Junior Varsity coach from 2012-2014 where she then moved on to Coach at McKinley Middle school from 2014-2015. During this time she also coach club competitive level from 2013-2016. Also while coaching she graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology in 2015, she is now currently going for a Master’s Degree in a Dual Track of Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling through the University of New Mexico. Her philosophy for coaching is that there is a reason that players are called “Student-Athletes”, they are students first before they are athletes, her expectations for players are not only to excel on the court but in life and in school.  Her motto for volleyball; “Make plays not excuses”.

​Dolores Duran, 15N1 Head Coach, 17N1 Head Coach

Dolores M. Gurule' de Duran born in Frankfurt, Germany. Grew up in Las Cruces, NM and attended Mayfield High School three year letterman, Most Valuable player, Female Athlete of Year, member of State Runner up Volleyball team in 1976-77. Attended University of New Mexico on volleyball scholarship. Twenty year veteran of Albuquerque Police Department. Gold medal recipient in bodybuilding at World Police and Fire Games and was most physically fit female officer through out her police years. Police officer of year, Detective of Quarter, Police officer of month. Fourteen years of teaching in State of NM Physical Education. She has coached at various High Schools, Los Lunas, Bosque School, St. Pius, Eldorado and Cibola as well as Jefferson Middle School. She is currently a 9th grade P.E. At Manzano High School. Level II NM coach license, USA Impact and Cap I certified volleyball coach. She been coaching for 18 years volleyball, track and field and is a certified fitness trainer.
